Baattery Park (named for the artillery that was stationed there by former Dutch and British occupants) is a public park located at the southern tip of Manhattan.  It is the ferry departure point for the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.  Located in the oldest section of the city, neighbor to the Financial District, Wall Street, and nearby the nearby the South Street Seaport Historic District, one Federal period mansion remains, the James Watson House.  Castle Garden, formerly Castle Clinton, an early American fort, lies within the park.  Currently, the eternal flame memorializing the victims of 9/11 lies in the northern section of the park.
